About

This documentary goes deep into a rich and complex discussion of conversion therapy in the UK.

This radio documentary is being produced for a final project for BA Multimedia Journalism at Bournemouth University by George Heal.

Conversion therapy is an umbrella term for the act of trying to convert someone from a homosexual to a heterosexual or to eradicate all sexual pleasures of the same sex.

It’s a very Americanised word and act – with most people thinking that conversion therapy consists of religious camps in America, however, it’s happening in the United Kingdom and it has been for a long time.

My name is George Heal and I am a final year BA Multimedia Journalism student who was born and raised in the South West of England. I am passionate about social issues including LGBT+ rights.

This is what has sparked my interest in the history and current use of conversion therapy in the UK as the majority of students around me don't know about conversion therapy and serious impact it has on people.

I am hoping to raise awareness with this project, not only to students but to such a greater audience. I hope this project will be able to open people's eyes to what is going on.
